Sowar Mohammad Hussain was born on 18 June 1949 in Dhok Pir Bakhsh(now Dhok Muhammad Husain Janjua). Before the completion of matric he joined Army as a driver. During 1971 war, Sowar Muhammad Hussain took an active part in every battle with the unit. In these days their unit was posted in Shakargarh area۔ At his own initiative he directed accurate fire of recoilless rifles, resulting in the destruction of sixteen enemy tanks. During the battle, a burst of machine-gun in the chest and embraced martyrdom on 10 December 1971.
In recognition of Sowar Mohammad Hussain Shaheed’s bravery, He was awarded by the medal of ‘Nishan-e-Haider’. Thus He was called the first soldier to be awarded the Nishan-e-Haider Medal, whereas before that only officers were received this medal.
